In the wake of the disaster that was WrestleMania IX, WWE rebounded in a huge way with the first ever PPV version of the King of the Ring Tournament. After being screwed out of his title in Las Vegas, Bret “Hitman” Hart would complete a legendary hat-trick en route to becoming the first, and only, back-to-back KOTR winner. KOTR ’93 was also significant as it marked the official end of Hulkamania as Yokozuna emphatically reclaimed the WWF Championship from Hulk Hogan.
