We begin by looking at Raw from January 2, 2017. Roman Reigns would once again defend the United States Championship against Chris Jericho but, this time, if Roman was counted out or disqualified, he would lose the title. With the deck seeming stacked in his favor, could Y2J finally capture the elusive US Title? Sami Zayn took on Braun Strowman in a Last Man Standing Match. Could Sami survive again? Titus O’Neil lobbied to be the newest member of the New Day, Brian Kendrick and TJ Perkins renewed their rivalry, and Cesaro took on Karl Anderson. Bayley met Nia Jax with the winner getting a shot at Charlotte’s Raw Championship at the Royal Rumble. In the first edition of the Kevin Owens Talk Show, the Universal Champ’s guest was Goldberg. This segment ended up on a rather iconic note and we bring you all the details here on Episode 158.
Smackdown Live saw The Miz defend the Intercontinental Championship against Dean Ambrose. With tension running at an all-time high between Dean, Miz and their respective ladies, who left Jacksonville with the gold? A long awaited development took place with Dolph Ziggler. What was this development? We let you know on Episode 158. Becky Lynch took on the mysterious La Luchadora, American Alpha took on Breezeango and things continued to get very personal between Nikki Bella and Natalya. John Cena and AJ Styles both knocked it out of the park as they signed the contract for their WWE Championship match at the Royal Rumble. Who may have the edge heading into that epic match? 205 Live saw the return/debut of Tajiri. Noam Dar took on Mustafa Ali in an excellent match. In the Main Event, the self-professed King of the Cruiserweights, Neville, continued the quest for his crown as he took on TJ Perkins. Could TJP slow the King’s ascension to his throne? NXT broadcast its’ historic show from Melbourne Australia. It showed, in its entirety, the Samoa Joe v Shinsuke Nakamaura Steel Cage match for the NXT Championship. But other great matches were on this card including The Revival vs Riddick Moss and Tino Sabatelli, a Triple Threat match between Liv Morgan, Ember Moon and Billie Kaye, Elias Samson teaming with Bobby Roode to go up against Buddy Murphy and Tye Dillinger, and DIY defending the NXT Tag Titles against TM61. Could the home crowd advantage be the difference and enable TM61 to capture the NXT Tag Titles? We let you know on Episode 158.
