For Episode 64, we kick things off by interviewing Steve Credo and Jonathon Benjamin from Another Wrestling Podcast. AWP is one of our favorite wrestling podcasts, other than our own of course. We spend about 40 minutes talking to Steve and Jonathon about what ended up being a huge week min pro wrestling. Join us as we talk about the shocking announcement that Roman Reigns will defend his WWE World Heavyweight Championship in the Royal Rumble match itself. We also discuss the raid of NJPW by WWE and all sorts of things in between. It is a great interview that fans of both shows should truly enjoy.
From there, we break down all the details of a truly crazy week in pro wrestling. As mentioned previously, Raw saw a stunning development when Vince McMahon, having failed to screw Roman Reigns out of the title directly, made the decision that Reigns would defend the WWE Championship in the Royal Rumble match itself. For only the second time in its’ history, the WWE Championship will be on the line in the Rumble match itself and, for the first time ever, the champion will have to defend the title in the Rumble. It is landscape altering decision by Mr. McMahon and one that has a massive impact upon not just the Royal Rumble, but on WrestleMania 32.
But that was not the only big news this past week as the pro wrestling world was abuzz with the news that, apparently, WWE is in the process of signing four huge names from New Japan Pro Wrestling. Are AJ Styles, Shinsuke Nakamura, Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows headed for WWE? If so, what sort of impact does this have on not just WWE but the entire pro wrestling landscape?
We also discuss the starting news that John Cena has suffered a rotator cuff injury and will probably miss WrestleMania 32. What does this mean for WWE moving forward and how well will the place run without the face that runs it being around?
We also discuss all the events that took place on Raw, NXT and Smackdown this past week and even discuss the crowning of a new Impact Wrestling (TNA) World Champion.
We close things down by going Back To The Front Lines of the Monday Night War and review In Your House 3, WWE’s first PPV since the War began. If you have been following this segment of the show, you know how harsh we were with our appraisal of WCW’s first post-War PPV, the now infamous Fall Brawl ’95. Was In Your House 3 any better? Did Intercontinental Champion, Shawn Michaels, and WWF World Champion Diesel deliver in the Triple Header Championship match against the Tag Team Champions, Owen Hart and Yokozuna? Who walked out with all the gold in this historic match? Tune in to Episode 64 to find out.
